In the summer of 1965, I was graduated from Alexandria university, with a B.Sc. degree from the mechanical engineering power department. In October 1965, I joined the engineering department of the atomic energy establishment (AEE), where I was in charge of the operation and maintenance of the central air conditioning and ventilation equipment for seven departments together with their annexes.
In September 1968, I was appointed as a demonstrator, research assistant, in the heat transfer laboratory of the reactors engineering department of the AEE, where I was working for my M.Sc. project in two phase flow.
In August 1971, I went to Norway on a scholarship to pursue my higher academic studies in two phase flow. There I joined the institute for steam and combustion technology, of the technical university of Norway in Trondheim, as a research assistant. In 1973, I received the degree of Dipl. Ing. , and in 1975, I received the degree of Dr. Ing. in two phase flow, under the supervision of Prof. Dag Johnson.
In September 1975, I joined the University of Glasgow, Scotland, U.K. There, I was appointed as a research officer in the desalination group at the department of mechanical engineering. Eventually, in 1979, I received the degree of Ph.D.,in water desalination, under the supervision of Prof. Robert Silver .
In the autumn of 1980, I joined the mechanical engineering department of the king Abdulaziz university as assistant professor. Then, I promoted to associate professor in 1984. Later on , in 1988 I was promoted to the rank of professor in desalination technology and energy conversion. Presently, I am still holding that professorship post in the department of thermal engineering and desalination technology, of the KAU, in Jeddah , S.A.
